We are now looking for a Solutions Architect to join our Vertiv team in Johannesburg, South Africa region.

The Solutions Architect role is a crucial member of the IMS Pursuit Team during the early engagement phases of customer programs with large industry leading customers. The position requires competencies in data center design coordination, thermal solutions, electrical solutions, as well as strong communication and presentation skills to deliver custom solutions meeting demanding customer business challenges.

Main activities:

• Must be proficient in providing technical support for solutions in the IT and Telecom industries. Typical solutions will include Data Centres (from Edge to Hyperscale), Energy Centres (Power Modules), Cable Landing Stations, Switching Centres and other solutions deployed in modular-prefabricated fashion.
• Provide Sales staff with technical assistance and support for technical documentation and customer facing presentations and engagements including leading customer communications.
• The candidate will lead and participate in customer presentations and project delivery including over-sight and contribution to costing, schedule, site logistics, and customer pricing.
• Coordinate the technical proposals, design documentation, and project proposals to support the design process and delivery to customers.

Other activities:

• Participate in the Corporate Planning process
• Develop presentations for and present at internal & external meetings as appropriate
• Assist in bid and contract submittal process with assigned Client
• Assist in sales process as necessary
• Operate and manage within a specified budget

Experience & Qualifications:

• BS in Engineering and min. 5-10 years’ work experience in data center design and applications.
• Experience in electrical, mechanical, and/or structural engineering is considered beneficial.
• Must possess strong organizational and time management skills along with customer interaction skills.
• Typically, office environment, but also international travel to customer locations for pre-sales presentations, technical discussions, and design-level interaction with customer engineering teams (travel is estimated to be approximately up to 30% per year).

Skills & Abilities:

• Excellent communication and leadership skills, both written and oral, to work with customers and across multiple engineering and manufacturing teams to bring architectures and concepts to product deployment stage,
• Solution-oriented thinking that will incorporate mechanical, electrical, structural, and other engineering competencies to an end-customer deployment,
• A working knowledge of IT and Telecom industry end-applications to successfully deploy the support infrastructure required
• Customer interaction (external and internal) to transition thoughts and concepts into solutions and delivering that interaction through documented specifications and presentations
• Creation, control, review and approval of technical solutions and customer proposals
• Time management
• Self-motivation.
